Background
A study of the frequency of phenotypes of red blood cell (RBC) in the inhabitants of the region is necessary for planning the preparation and storage of blood components, the organization of prevention of posttransfusion complications and hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn.
Aims
Determine the distribution of the phenotypes of the Kell, MNS, Duffy, Kidd, P1PK, Lewis and Lutheran Blood Group systems in donors of blood components living in north-eastern regions of the Russian Federation.
Methods
Analysis of the results of typing of RBC antigens by gel agglutination assay (BioRad, USA) in 128 donors of blood components was carried out.
Results
Frequency of occurrence of phenotypes of red blood cells is presented in the table.
Table. Prevalence of Kell, MNS, Duffy, Kidd, P1PK, Lewis, Lutheran Blood Group Systems in the population of north-eastern regions of Russian Federation
Blood Group System | Phenotype | Prevalence (%) |
Kell | K-k+ K+k+ K+k- Kp(a+b-) Kp(a-b+) Kp(a+b+) | 95.1 4.8 0.1 0 98.2 1.8 |
MNS | M+N- M+N+ M-N+ S+s- S+s+ S-s+ | 31.3 56.3 12.4 18.8 42.1 39.1 |
Duffy | Fy(a+b-) Fy(a-b+) Fy(a+b+) Fy(a-b-) | 18.8 34.4 46.8 0 |
Kidd | Jk(a+b-) Jk(a-b+) Jk(a+b+) Jk(a-b-) | 19.0 25.9 55.1 0 |
P1PK | Р1+ Р1- | 63.0 37.0 |
Lewis | Le(a+b-) Le(a-b+) Le(a-b-) Le(a+b+) | 7.4 88.9 3.7 0 |
Lutheran | Lu(a+b-) Lu(a-b+) Lu(a+b+) Lu(a-b-) | 1.6 82.3 16.1 0 |
Conclusion
In the population of north-eastern regions of Russian Federation two times less often than in European countries, there are phenotypes K+k+, M-N+, Le(a+b-), more often - P1-.
